Online Social Networking Pros and Cons
By Richard Brooks of Mutima$tery Marketing Group
There are definitely online social networking pros and cons. One of the Pros is that there’s practically a social network for every group of people sharing common interests. From sports, crafts, business and just traditional community-wide social networks - there’s definitely a corner of the web for everyone! More Pros of social networking is that you really network and make friends, share ideas, cultivate business contacts, share information, mix & mingle, and have a jolly good ole time! These are the great pros of social networking. I am a member of several myself and they have been very beneficial and fun for me!-) However… there are some cons to social networking as well. These drawbacks have particular plagued large popular social communities like MySpace & FaceBook. Some social networking Cons are… Identity theft, scams, unwanted sexual content, profanity, predators, hackers & computer viruses, the list goes on & on… These open communities are definitely not safe for kids and are even offensive to many adults! Some people have asked the question... Should social networking sites be banned? My answer is No; I definitely don't think it should go that far. Just like in the real world, there are just Online Social Networking Pros and Cons that one must be aware of... not only for themselves, but their family as well. It’s really nothing to take lightly, especially being that an unfortunate few have been kidnapped and even killed as a result of online social networking. Although social networks can be a delightful past-time, you should always be cautious because you never know who’s on the other side of the computer screen. And furthermore, you should be especially careful about meeting someone you met online in person. But hey if you’re an adult you can do what you want to do... but let me give you this piece of advice: If you do decide to meet someone in person that you've met online, I’d definitely recommend meeting in a public place and taking a friend along with you. You just can never be too careful these days. One positive thing about the negative publicity that social hubs like MySpace have been receiving, is that more & more networks are starting to realize the need to provide safer, more secure communities - so that their members can relish in the Pros of social networking - and not be plagued by the Cons of social networking. One social network that's taking a proactive step is a relatively New Social Network called Our-Social. This is the family-friendly alternative to MySpace or Facebook. Our-Social hails itself as the safest family-friendly online community on the Internet today. They make a diligent effort to elevate social network value by blocking out any & all offensive content - so that it can be a community that the whole family can enjoy safe & securely. I must say this social network is very refreshing and it caught my attention instantly. I’ve never come across a social network with this caliber of social networking policies. I do believe that once more people find out about them they will really flourish. Another cool thing is that this is a free social network that pays. They have a nice program in place where they pay their members up to $2.25 for members that they refer. This is just an added bonus to their already great 'safe-networking' concept, and I must say it is a very smart business move to enable their membership base to grow much faster. Although this community is new to me and probably you too, it looks like it has been around for a couple of years based on the copyright I saw at the bottom of its webpage. However, although a large group of followers are already hip to Our-Social, many people are just now discovering this growing social network. I joined Our-Social the first day I saw it about a week ago, and I’m beginning to become more active there. It’s actually pretty refreshing. The best part is that it's a safe atmosphere that the whole family can enjoy! You can play games, participate in forums, start a discussion group, upload pics & vids and enjoy yourself in a nice clean environment. If you decide to join feel free to add me as a friend. My username is the same ~ Multimastery. Hope to see you there! |
